Shh, I can’t hear him.
He’s not talking any more,
Has he gone?
I don’t think so: No,
It looks as though
everyone’s still waiting
for something.
He wouldn’t just walk away
and leave us here, would he?
I’m hungry!
Oh look, there he is; he’s
laughing and talking with
that crowd of children
over there.
Stop crawling over me
I’m hungry!
Well, there’s nothing here to eat.
I liked the story that he told
about …..
I’m hungry!
Oh yes, that was a good one
and he was certainly worth
listening to. Did you see that
lame man over there
just leap up to his feet?
Hey, come back. You’ll
get lost in this great crowd.
I want to go to the …
Oh, now what’s happening?
I’m hungry!
When are we going
home?
I can’t even see him now;
it’s chaos and nearly
everyone is standing up,
craning to get a better view.
Look, something is going on,
the people nearest him are starting
to sit down – and now a wave
of movement is rippling towards us
as so many bodies slowly lower
themselves onto the ground,
until like those in front of us
we’re washed by the oncoming
tide and find ourselves
squatting down onto the grass.
I’m hungry!
I’m sorry, but someone who just
walked past us heard the men who
follow him say there’s nothing here
to eat. Maybe we should think
of getting home before ….
But look, some of those same men
are weaving through the crowds
with baskets, handing food out left
and right. But we haven’t paid,
and I didn’t bring any money with ….
Oh, Oh, thank you, thank you.
Where on earth did all that bread
and fish come from in this isolated
place? Here, kid, stop complaining;
come and eat. Yes, you, come on,
eat as much as you want, as much
as you can. I reckon there’s enough
good food here to last for ever.
