Almost Harvest Moon

Tomorrow night you will be full; tonight
there’s just a whiff of raw potential
and unfinished business. Huge and bright,
you fill the sky and glow with a celestial
luminosity, but fall short of perfection.
We trust that with the rhythm of the year
the approaching equinox will bring completion
to the circle of your ever-rolling sphere.
You flood our fields with your reflected light
while the harvest ripens and you glide
across infinity and gently rule the tide.
As darkness deepens, you seem to swell with pride
and brighten with the fast-advancing night:
oh so nearly perfect, but not quite.
