Menses

I bleed, and from my body
flows a stream
uniting me with all that’s
fruitful in the earth.

I swell, and celebrate
the ripening corn, the apple
and the yeast which multiplies
the cells, sustaining life.

I feel
the rhythm of the tides
which rise and fall and draw
all waters to the sea.

And deep within my body
a lake reflects the glow that lights the night,
mirroring the moon,
pure centre of the rhythm that I share.
